Mission

Jewish Vocational Service empowers individuals to increase self-sufficiency, independence, and inclusion through a continuum of services that enriches lives. JVS serves the entire community without regard to religious affiliation or belief while remaining committed to providing our services to the Jewish community.

CODE OF ETHICS — STAFF/TRUSTEE MEMBERS

Jewish Vocational Service's goal of addressing the needs of individuals both with and without disabilities and its dedication to the highest standards of professional conduct, education, and services rests upon a collective and an individual commitment to ethics.

To guide the conduct of this service agency, Jewish Vocational Service endorses the following six principles:

  • Diversity

    Staff/trustee members of Jewish Vocational Service will, at all times, promote the acceptance and appreciation of every individual regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, age, religious affiliation, national origin, sexual orientation, ability, or socioeconomic status.

    Staff/trustee members of Jewish Vocational Service will conduct all activities with a high regard for honesty.
  • Respect

    Staff/trustee members of Jewish Vocational Service will conduct all activities with thoughtful concern for the individuality of others, their needs, and their ideas.
  • Justice

    Staff/trustee members of Jewish Vocational Service will treat others fairly at all times.
  • Accountability

    Staff/trustee members of Jewish Vocational Service will keep promises, honor contracts, and fulfill obligations.
  • Confidentiality

    Staff/trustee members of Jewish Vocational Service will conduct all activities with appropriate confidentiality regarding consumers and agency information.

    To integrate these principles into Jewish Vocational Service's culture and to encourage ethical conduct, Jewish Vocational Service is committed to the ongoing process of developing ethical policies and procedures.

Staff & Administration

  1. All members will practice only in their area(s) of competence and will maintain high standards.
  2. All members will demonstrate ethical and moral integrity in all relations between and among other professionals, the consumers and the counselors.
  3. All members because of their special roles in rehabilitation and/or education and their effect on the lives and welfare of their consumers will be actively aware of the need to eliminate racism, discrimination and sexism, and any practices, procedures, or traditions that would deny or impede human rights to any person or group.
  4. Each member will not practice, facilitate, condone, or collaborate with any form of discrimination be that race, gender, age, ethnicity, religious affiliation, national origin, sexual orientation, ability, marital status, or socioeconomic status.
  5. Each member will not engage in any action that violates or diminishes the civil or legal rights of consumers or fellow staff members.
  6. All members will maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
  7. All members, when issuing public statements, will do so in an objective and truthful manner.

Standards of Practice in Assistance to Consumers

  1. Members shall use every reasonably available resource to ensure that the identified needs of the consumers are met, which may include referring to other sources that provide the needed service.
  2. Members shall cooperate, where appropriate, with members of other professions in delivering services to consumers, and shall actively participate in a team process when the consumer's needs require such an approach.
  3. Members shall verify consumer's needs by using a direct assessment or an evaluation procedure with the consumer.
  4. Members shall offer an appropriate range of assistive services which include assessment, evaluation, training, recommendations, adjustments to service, and modifications and follow-up after service is provided.
  5. Members shall not charge for services not rendered, nor misrepresent in any form services not rendered.
  6. Members shall endeavor on an on-going basis to institute procedures to evaluate, promote, and enhance the quality of services delivered to all consumers.
  7. Members shall maintain adequate records of all evaluations, assessments, services, recommendations, and reports and preserve confidentiality of those records, unless required by law and/or for the welfare of the person or community would be required otherwise.
  8. Members shall keep consumers fully informed on all aspects of their consented treatment.
  9. Members shall not discriminate in the delivery of services or supplies on the basis of age, creed, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
